Tory minister Nadhim Zahawi pockets fortune from second job at oil company

Tory minister Nadhim Zahawi banked £1.3million from an oil company while working as an MP, but he has been able to keep his total second job earnings hidden due to a Parliamentary loophole.
Mr Zahawi’s total earnings from Gulf Keystone Petroleum included a final £285,000 “settlement payment” after he first became a Government minister in 2018.

Mr Zahawi was co-chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Kurdistan in 2015 when he landed the job with Gulf Keystone, which has an oil field in Kurdistan and which paid him more than £1,000 an hour.
His Gulf Keystone income was declared in his register of interests, but his total second job earnings are not known thanks to Parliamentary rules allowing him to advise companies through Zahawi & Zahawi Ltd, a consultancy he set up with his wife.
Mr Zahawi did not respond to a request for comment.
But Sir Alistair Graham, a former Chairman of the Committee on Standards in Public Life, said: “This could be interpreted as a deliberate attempt to get around the rules so that he doesn’t have to admit the scale of his earnings in a consultant capacity.

Cult-owned Johnson hit with HUGE revolt and warned a leadership challenge is ‘on the cards’ as 98 Tory MPs – nearly half his backbenchers – vote against Covid passes slating his ‘hysterical’ Omicron projections and leaving him relying on Cult-owned Labour support to win the vote

Boris Johnson was hit with a massive Tory revolt tonight and warned a leadership challenge is ‘on the cards’ as he only managed to force through introducing Covid passes with Labour support.
The Commons signed off the tighter rules, but the size of the uprising was comfortably the biggest yet. Some 99 Conservative MPs – around half of all backbenchers – went against the PM after accusing him of overseeing a ‘ministry of fear’ with ‘hysterical’ claims about Omicron.
The extraordinary rebellion came despite Mr Johnson making a desperate last-ditch plea to Tory Covid rebels before the showdown, insisting he has ‘no choice’ about imposing curbs.
One of the rebel Tories was Louie French, who only won his Old Bexley and Sidcup seat in a by-election 12 days ago. He tonight said he was honouring a ‘clear pre-election pledge that I would not support Covid passes’.
There was another big mutiny over making vaccination compulsory for health and care staff, which passed by 385 to 100 – more than enough to offset the premier’s sizeable 80-strong majority if Keir Starmer had not backed him.
Earlier the House signed off on tighter mask rules by 441 to 41. Including two tellers who counted for the Noes, 40 Tories defied the whip to oppose the move. The House also ‘nodded through’ changes to replace isolation rules with daily testing for the fully-vaccinated.
The outcome raises serious questions about whether Mr Johnson has the political capital to bring in harsher measures that might be needed if Omicron runs rampant.
Veteran Tory Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, a member of the 1922 Committee executive, warned that Mr Johnson is ‘in danger’ and a leadership contest next year is ‘on the cards’. ‘The PM has got to think very carefully about how he is going to reset his performance,’ he said.

Johnson ally Lord Frost resigns over government ‘Covid’ restrictions policy, tax hikes and net zero green agenda as the Dishevelled Prat in Downing Street is caught between the Cult agenda and a gathering number of his own MPs who are the only political opposition in the wake of the Cult-owned Starmer Labour Party

Boris Johnson has been dealt a severe blow following the sensational resignation of Cabinet Minister Lord Frost, which has sparked discussions among Conservative MPs about the Government’s direction over Covid, taxes and green policies.
Lord Frost, who negotiated Britain’s departure from the EU as Brexit Minister, is understood to have handed his resignation to the Prime Minister a week ago, but was persuaded by Mr Johnson to stay in his post until January.
Following the The Mail on Sunday’s exclusive, Lord Frost has brought forward his departure from next month and instead agreed to ‘step down with immediate effect’, sending a hurried letter of resignation to the Prime Minister outlining his ‘concerns about the current direction of travel’.
A senior Government source said Lord Frost’s departure had been prompted by the introduction of ‘Plan B’ Covid measures, including vaccine passports. But that was just the final straw after months of growing discontent over tax rises and the staggering cost of ‘net zero’ environmental policies.
Conservative MPs are increasingly talking about a challenge to the Prime Minister’s leadership within the next six months, with Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Foreign Secretary Liz Truss leading the field of contenders.
Messages from a Whatsapp group of more than 100 Tory MPs titled ‘Clean Global Brexit’, reveal Andrew Bridgen describing the move as a ‘disaster’ while Theresa Villiers calls it ‘very worrying’, Sky News reports.
Culture minister Nadine Dorries described Mr Johnson as a ‘hero’ and then appears to be removed from the group before Steve Baker writes ‘Enough is enough’.
In his letter, released by Downing Street, Lord Frost praised Mr Johnson’s work to implement the EU referendum result, but added: ‘Brexit is now secure. The challenge for the Government now is to deliver on the opportunities it gives us.

Temper tantrums, sulks, berating ‘fucking stupid’ staff and throwing mobile phones at them: Extraordinary rap sheet of bully and ‘serial liar’ ex-Speaker John Bercow is revealed in damning report as he is BANNED from Parliament for life

John Bercow is a ‘serial bully’ who subjected his staff to violent temper tantrums and scathing verbal abuse in a campaign of terror during his time as Commons Speaker, a damning report revealed today.
The former parliamentary referee – known for theatrically shouting ‘order’ to silence rowdy MPs – faces being banned from Parliament over a catalogue of appalling behaviour.
An official probe by the standards watchdog today branded the ex-Tory MP a ‘serial liar’ as it ruled his treatment of three staff would warrant expulsion from the Commons had he not quit in 2019.

Boris Johnson’s new ‘cost of living tsar’ said he lacks intelligence and called for him to quit

Boris Johnson’s new “cost of living tsar” called for him to quit No 10 over Partygate and suggested he lacks intelligence, it has emerged.
David Buttress, a former head of the Just Eat online food delivery service, has been asked to develop new business-led ideas to help people struggling with falling living standards.
He was described as boasting a “wealth of experience” and ready to bring the “vigour and ingenuity of business” to the role, working with the Cabinet Office.
But, in January, as Mr Johnson was engulfed by the scandal over the lawbreaking No 10 parties, Mr Buttress tore into the prime minister’s failings on Twitter.
“Never confuse an expensive education with intelligence or integrity,” he tweeted.
“I don’t think Boris is particularly blessed with either, imagine if he had not had the many privileges he has experienced. Does anyone believe he would be PM on merit? Not a chance, mate.”
Later that month, Mr Buttress also posted: “Why is it that the worse [sic] people often rise to the highest office and stay there!?”
And he added: “Boris has to go, he just has to. You can’t survive judgment like this.”
The prime minister’s spokesman declined to say if ministers were aware of the new tsar’s past criticisms, but insisted “due diligence” had been carried out before the appointment.
Mr Buttress is also a supporter of Welsh independence, once linking child poverty to being part of the United Kingdom.

Rise and rise of the anti-woke crusader who could become Labour’s worst nightmare

Until a couple of weeks ago, almost no one outside Government circles and her Essex constituency had heard of Kemi Badenoch.
Today, not only is she a household name with huge numbers of admirers on the Tory Right, she is also being taken seriously as a possible future party leader.
Most people think this contest has come too soon for her, and she is a long shot to reach the final two contenders. But she is already being tipped for a major Cabinet post in the next Government. It is easy to see why her ‘small state’, anti-woke platform is winning support.
She has become the poster girl for the culture wars and someone who does not shrink from confrontation, wading into arguments over race and radical trans-activism with the gusto of a political street fighter.
She also possesses an ability — rare among her fellow MPs and ministers — of speaking plainly. She certainly couldn’t have been clearer when, in 2018, she declared that trans women were ‘men using women’s bathrooms’.
And she was understandably proud in her most recent job as Equalities Minister when she announced that all new public buildings would have separate male and female toilets.
This same direct — some might call it blunt — approach has been equally visible on issues of race, notably when she described the concept of white privilege as ‘stoking divisions’ and ‘marginalising the disadvantaged’.
In a challenge to the Left, she argued that the solution to making the country fairer did not lie in the rhetoric of ‘decolonise this, tear down that’.
Refreshingly, she bridles, too, against trendy thinking that likes to paint British history as a long saga of wickedness.
