I remember this one quite well. I did see it mentioned on a UFO programme on TV also.
The pilot came across as pretty credible and as far as I am aware it has never been disproved. There was a couple of stupid proposals put forward by debunkers saying it could have been reflection from a ferry, but considering the experience of the pilot I think that that theory is insulting. It was also seen by another pilot travelling in the opposite direction from Sark, and also appeared on radar so the reflection theory does not hold up.

Could be a high altitude weather balloon, these begin with a long thin canopy and only expand as they reach their cieling height, can you imagine what people in places without TV or Radio thought when they saw the Zepellin for the very first time.
