What determines Moral or Immoral Behaviour? - Greg D - 05-29-2019
This thread is prompted by Richie’s discussion with Mark Collett.
The Dictionary definition of Moral is; relating to the standards of good or bad behavior, fairness, honesty, etc. that each person believes in, rather than to laws: Immoral is; morally wrong or outside society's standards of acceptable, honest, and moral behavior: My guess is that’s the dilemma in this discussion, which often reverts back to a person’s upbringing and their moral influences and perceptions of right and wrong. Many of these views come from our parents and then later from the school system. I know from my own children, the loving sweet child I sent to school, rapidly changed after spending a relatively short time in the school environment. As parents we then began a battle to justify the values we had introduced, from very early childhood. Now it seems the state narrative is being introduced at an even earlier time, in a child’s life and is now far more complex. My parents weren’t Christians but the value’s I was taught certainly had origins in Bible scripture, even if my parents didn’t know where they were from. All human beings are fitted with a conscience from birth, having said that they also have a rebellious and sometimes contrary nature that fights against it. Thus you don’t have to teach a child to be behave badly; you spend most of your time teaching them to be good. An old fashion method was known as manners, it’s quite hard to teach a child to say please and thank you, these days. By doing that though, you remind a child that someone has just gone out of their way to done something for you, otherwise they grow up with a feeling of entitlement. Then it’s good to introduce words like No and Wait, also to encourage the child to call people uncle and aunty and stop the modern habit of calling a parent by their first name and not Mum or Dad. Having said that the whole Jehovah witness church revolves around calling God by his first name, Jehovah. A modern teenage sentence has the word, ‘like’ in it, every second word, I say modern but the origin of that mode of speaking comes from 1960’s Beatniks. Perhaps modern teenage language could be called Facebook speak because the more’ Likes’ it has the better it is. Sorry I got side tracked. The point Mark made was a valid one, which is, Islam can make a stand for what they believe but Christians can’t. I know many people on this Forum believe all belief systems are a form of programing using mind control. The question I would ask is, what’s the alternative world to Christian morals destined to look like? Jesus said Luke CH 6:35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Perhaps that world system doesn’t sound all that bad. Jesus also prophesied of a future time when this would be happening, Math 24:9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. Perhaps that time has arrived and a divine intervention is close at hand.
