Why the Lineker Saga Will Accelerate the BBC’s Demise

Patrick O’Flynn has an interesting take on the ongoing Lineker saga in the Spectator, suggesting it could accelerate the demise of the BBC. Here’s an excerpt:
Quote:
I never expected staff at an entire department of the BBC to put their shoulders to the wheel of the campaign to bring about an early demise for the television licence fee. Yet that is what those working for BBC Sport have done with their rock-solid sympathy strike on behalf of Gary Lineker.
Of course, most of them probably don’t realise what they are doing. With many of the big names of BBC Sport being former professional footballers themselves, one should not expect a particularly exalted level of intellectual reasoning.
But if they help Lineker win the right to continue engaging in hyperbolic left-wing tweeting while being the BBC figure paid most loot by TV licence fee-payers, they will surely hasten the end of the compulsory fee.
BBC director general Tim Davie – effectively its editor-in-chief – has previously reminded Lineker about his responsibility not to compromise the corporation’s impartiality via his social media utterances. Lineker, by contrast, has expressed zero remorse for his latest infraction and has even pledged to carry on in the same vein. So it looks like a fight to the finish.
Let’s be clear: in his outburst over the Government’s Illegal Migration Bill, the Match of the Day presenter did not merely say he was against the legislation and thought we should do better by new arrivals in the country.
He invoked bad faith and extremism on the part of those advancing or supporting the measures, branding them “beyond awful” and “immeasurably cruel” before even getting on to his ludicrous comparisons with 1930s Germany. This is, to use a footballing analogy (the only one this article will contain, I promise) tantamount to going in on an opponent two-footed and with studs showing.
Early polling from YouGov on Friday found that half of people support the core policy in the Bill – that anyone arriving illegally should be removed from the U.K. and not allowed to return, compared to 36% opposing it and 14% expressing no opinion.
So Lineker has branded at least half of those who fund his BBC wages via the licence fee as morally bankrupt and akin to Germans who went along with Hitler’s persecution of minorities.
There is no way that a compulsory universal licence fee can support that level of factionalism among its prime beneficiaries.

O’Flynn goes on to argue that a universal broadcaster is an obsolete notion in an era of such radical division.

Quote:
We live in an increasingly polarised era when it comes to politics. Ideas that once commanded near-universal support, such as heightened compatriot obligation being the very basis of a nation state, are now actively and fiercely contested. In the case of the new legislation, that ferocity is even directed against the principle of it being reasonable for a nation to fend off illegal breaches of its borders.
We also have intensifying geographic and demographic-based concentrations of opinion on either side of this basic values divide. Anyone who had the pleasure of wandering round various London TV studios on June 24th, 2016 (the day after the EU referendum result) as I did, would have been in no doubt about the overwhelming preponderance of distraught Remain voters to be found within the broadcast media in general.
So the defenders of Lineker’s right to be politically partial, hyperbolic and abusive are in effect arguing for those of a conservative mindset to be forced to pay the wages of someone who insults them. If Lineker gets to win his face-off with Davie then by extension this will apply to many other left-leaning BBC household names too.
Can they not see that this simply isn’t a credible way forward for a broadcaster that is supposed, in the words of its recent promo, to belong to “all of us”?

Stop Press: Saturday’s Match of the Day sans Gary Lineker saw its audience increase 23.4% compared to last week. Guido Fawkes has more:

Quote:
Match of the Day was watched by 2.58 million TV viewers on BBC One. Up nearly half a million on last Saturday’s figure of 2.09 million according to the BARB overnights. This was the show’s biggest audience this year.
Worth reading in ful.

How the BBC Lost Its Way on COVID

I’ve seen from the inside how the corporation has failed in its reporting on the pandemic

I have been a BBC journalist for many years, and in that time I have been committed to impartiality and the corporation’s Reithian values to inform and educate. My despair about the BBC’s one-sided coverage of the pandemic though has been steadily growing for some time. And in early December, as I listened to a BBC radio broadcast, I felt the corporation reach a new low.

Is the BBC the Most Corrupt Broadcaster in the World?

BBC staff like to pretend that they have the right to the high moral ground.
In reality the BBC (which is, let us never forget, a Government approved, Government controlled propaganda machine) employs 22,000 people who should all be arrested for complicity in a series of crimes.
The crimes?
Taking part in the biggest fraud in history. Supporting the fake pandemic, the dangerous lockdowns and the useless but dangerous masks.
Promoting the most dangerous, pharmaceutical product ever made, lionising those making and promoting the vaccine and refusing to allow those questioning the safety and efficacy of the vaccines to discuss their fears on BBC programmes.
Suppressing the truth to help perpetuate the fraud and demonising the truth-tellers.
Refusing to allow proper, balanced debate of vital issues such as vaccination, digital currencies and smart cities.
Promoting the absurd pseudoscientific nonsense known as ‘climate change’ and pretending that it is real and backed by the world’s scientists when it is neither of those things.
If there are any BBC employees with functioning brain tissue (not a big chance I admit) they must know by now that they have been doing the wrong things for years now.
But they know that to admit the truth would mean confessing that they have been lying for more than three years and supporting treacherous conspirators and globalists working against the interests of the public. And there would, of course, be dire legal consequences both for the BBC and for individual employees.
BBC staff have been, and still are, ‘truth deniers’. They have always promoted the European Union (the first step towards the Great Reset). There has been no integrity, no fairness and no transparency for years. The BBC has given us nothing but misinformation and disinformation. They have spread lies and specialised in deception and abuse of the truth tellers.
I recently saw an article on the BBC website titled: ‘How Vladimir Putin’s regime uses TV to keep his people backing the war in Ukraine’ and ‘Telling the Russians what to believe’.
That wins a major prize for hypocrisy.
Do not, whatever you do, pay the BBC licence fee or buy any BBC products. (Naturally, you must make sure you do not break the law but it is possible to avoid paying the licence fee.) As a bonus you will receive a threatening letter every month from the Gestapo collecting

BBC Vilify – stamping out inconvenient truths

TCW Defending Freedom has received the following press release from the BBC announcing the launch of BBC Vilify.
THE exponential growth of manipulated and distorted news reports and video means that seeing is no longer believing. Our dwindling number of consumers tell us they can no longer trust that the video in their news feeds is genuine. This is why we at the BBC must urgently begin to show and share the work we do behind the scenes, to check and vilify truthful but inconvenient information to ensure that it does not appear on our platforms.
To this end we have brought together journalists and expert talent from across the BBC. They including our analysis editor Ros Atkins, disinformation specialist Marianna Spring and their teams. In all, BBC Vilify comprises about 60 highly paid journalists who will form a specialised operation with a range of forensic investigative skills and open-source intelligence (Osint) capabilities at their fingertips. Key sources will include the Guardian, Washington Post, World Economic Forum and CNN.
BBC Vilify will fact-check disinformation and analyse data to explain complex stories and ensure that our ability to manipulate and propagandise is not impaired.
Take for example, the growing calls to investigate the abnormally high number of excess deaths and the possible links to the wonderful Covid-19 vaccines. Our teams have extensively researched this issue.
Verdict: We have been told by none other than the Chief Medical Officer and a spokesperson from Pfizer that those calling for the investigation are deluded enemies of ‘The Science’.
Fact Checked by BBC Vilify
We also cast our journalistic eyes upon some renegade scientists who do not believe that the increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide is the cause of the climate emergency and deny that we have only ten years to forestall the extinction of life on earth.
Verdict: Following discussions with a Ms Thunberg we are satisfied that these climate deniers represent a lunatic fringe.
Fact Checked by BBC Vilify
Some consumers have expressed concern that the great philanthropist Bill Gates has questions to answer about the number of meetings he had with the paedophile Jeffrey Epstein and the purpose of his visits to Epstein’s properties.
Verdict: There is nothing to suggest that our donor, Mr Gates, had anything other than a desire to engage with Mr Epstein in frequent games of Ludo and Scrabble. Those who suggest otherwise are fantasists who can expect a writ for defamation.
Fact Checked by BBC Vilify
It has been suggested that the ideal family unit consists of a married man and a woman who together have children.
Verdict: The team unanimously agreed that the words ‘man’ and ‘woman’ are potentially gender-offensive and people who hold this view are ‘Far-Right’ religious fanatics.

Legacy Media Illegally Colluded With Big Tech to Censor News Publishers: Lawsuit

Some of the oldest media organizations in the world illegally colluded with Big Tech companies to censor news publishers, according to a new lawsuit.
Reuters, the Associated Press, the BBC, and the other organizations violated U.S. law with the collusion, which was done after forming a new coalition called the Trusted News Initiative (TNI), the 108-page suit alleges.
The coalition was formed in 2020 to try to stop “harmful disinformation myths” and “fake news,” according to the BBC. Jessica Cecil of the BBC, the former head of TNI, has described the coalition as “cooperation between tech and media,” with the work including finding “practical ways to choke off” alleged false information from sources that aren’t part of the group.
That led to Big Tech censorship of competitors to the media organizations, such as Children’s Health Defense, a nonprofit that seeks to raise awareness of vaccine safety concerns, the nonprofit said in the new suit.
But the TNI has actually deemed accurate or possibly true information as false, including the possibility that COVID-19 originated from a laboratory in China, Children’s Health Defense says.

BBC’s disinformation queen shoots herself in both feet

MARIANNA Spring, the BBC’s ‘Disinformation and Social Media Correspondent’, was aiming for the kill. Announcing BBC Verify a few weeks ago, Spring specified a ‘conspiracy newspaper’ as her prime target. Seeking out undefined ‘harm’ and ‘hate’ and getting politicians to take up her denunciations is specifically how she defines her new ‘reporting’ role. In The Light, the innovative, free sheet, she was sure she had found her catch. It’s been revealing a worrying amount of truth, so it must not prevail. Plummeting television ratings are clearly hurting, but the motive for attacking competitors is not merely about popularity. The new initiative of BBC Verify explicitly reveals our national broadcaster in its Big Brother light, an asset of the surveillance state and Spring as its chief agent.
The Light is a monthly print bulletin launched in October 2020 by Mancunian musician Darren Nesbit as a means of bypassing the unprecedented and draconian censorship on the purported Covid-19 pandemic. Initially distributed at protests against lockdown and a few Stand in the Park groups, it rapidly spread nationwide. Hundreds of volunteers purchase copies in bulk and distribute them, in the interest of awakening more people to the globalist power-grab of our property, privacy, democracy and freedom. In other words, to the Great Reset.

Cleverly, as printed press copy, The Light has averted much of the censorship exerted on independent media, parts of which have been suppressed, demonetised and banned (as experienced by TCW). https://www.conservativewoman.co.uk/tcw-was-censored-by-the-uk-government/ The Light is like the Samizdat in the Soviet Union, whereby dissidents such as Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn kept each other informed with covertly typewritten pamphlets passed to trusted acquaintances. In a digital world, paper itself is resistance.

Spring approached Nesbit for an interview based on the idea that each party asked the other a series of questions. He agreed to it.

You can watch the full three-hour unedited conversation, Marianna in Conspiracyland: *FULL UNEDITED INTERVIEW* with Darren Nesbit, Editor of The Light Paper, here.

The exchange is remarkable: a supposedly gifted young reporter is no match for the upstart editor. Whereas Spring uses clichés of the official narrative throughout and avoids substance, Nesbit confronts her with rational argument. The comments beneath the video on Rumble are not kind to Spring.

As expected, however, for her article Spring has cherry-picked the bits of the interview that fit her distorted pre-ordained perspective of dangerous disinformation and hateful extremism. Her account of the paper is inaccurate and unfair if not grossly misrepresentative. Take her claim that it is ‘A UK conspiracy theory newspaper sharing calls for trials and executions of politicians and doctors has links with the British far-right’. Yes, some writers have called for justice for the unethical and brutal Covid-19 regime, akin to the Nuremberg trials after the Second World War, deeming the imposition of these policies tantamount to criminal acts. In Spring’s worldview there should be no freedom for such opinion. She does not produce any evidence either of death threats, or for the incongruent connection she made between the cause for freedom from fascist authoritarianism and fascism itself. Indeed, Nesbit exposed this shortcoming in Spring’s case during the interview.

Spring also inaccurately stated that 100,000 copies of The Light are printed monthly (the number is a quarter of a million). This is similar to her gross underestimates of the size of freedom rallies in central London, showing that she herself is more propagandist than an objective reporter of information.

Blithely unaware of the principles of journalism, Spring justifies her amorphous ‘violence and hate’ inquiries by reference to national security needs. ‘Referring to concerns about the wider conspiracy theory movement more generally’, she cites the UK’s Head of Counter Terrorism Policing, Matt Jukes, who she reports as having ‘told the BBC they are currently “seeing evidence of conspiracy theories being interwoven with extremism” and that this “connection is very much on our radar and in our sights as investigators”.’

What exactly is Spring saying here? That the BBC has been seconded by the State in the person of herself to confirm their suppositions about ‘a wider conspiracy theory movement’ and root it out? Shouldn’t the BBC’s job rather be to critically and objectively examine the UK’s ‘counter terrorism’ policy?

I know Darren Nesbit and have found him to be a man of integrity and insight. He is primarily motivated not by money but by a mission of enlightenment (hence the title of his production). He is not a typical editor – he does not necessarily agree with all of the content published in The Light. His undertaking as a genuine advocate of free speech, a concept that Spring appears to abhor, is to create and provide a free outlet for that. There is none so blind as those who will not see, and Spring refuses to consider any justification for people diverging from the mainstream media consensus on Covid-19 or climate change, or to allow that the lockdown and coerced vaccination programmes are perceived by many principled people to be ‘crimes against humanity’.

In her attempted inquisition of Nesbit, I was surprised to find the only verbatim quote she took from the pages of The Light was my writing, a passage I am proud of for putting the schism between the rulers and the ruled so succinctly:

‘We didn’t vote for authoritarianism in the guise of public health, coercive mass injection of an untested genetic engineering vaccine, road closures for a dubious climate crisis, rising prices and food shortages, unlimited illegal immigration, constant promotion of subversive gender ideology and critical race theory, and destruction of our heritage. And we certainly didn’t vote for war against Russia.’

This was a strange choice by Spring for an example of misinformation, because it was taken from an article inviting readers to submit a series of ten questions to their MPs (published in TCW, with the answers reported here). If asking the wrong questions is prohibited, we really have returned to the Dark Ages.

A repeated point by Spring is that ‘disinformation’, whatever she means by this, endangers society. As an example for her BBC article she found someone who is upset about the popularity of The Light in his town:

‘In the Devon town of Totnes, a motivated minority have been distributing The Light for the past two years. Its former town Mayor Ben Piper says he first became a key target of the conspiracy theory movement there because of his role enforcing coronavirus restrictions. He fears an article about him in The Light exacerbated the harassment he experienced – from abuse in the street, to sinister phone calls, to someone driving a car at him.’

But according to Nesbit, there has been ‘no article about the mayor – there might have been a piece that mentioned him and his support for the tyranny, I suppose’. Totnes is a well-heeled town to which members of the metropolitan elite, including green zealots, have migrated from London. But it also has a large community of critical thinkers who distrust the establishment. Spring produced no evidence in support of the ex-Mayor’s ‘fears’ about The Light. It would be interesting to know how she elicited the comment from him.
This is a thoroughly nasty campaign by Spring, who is protecting the establishment and its cronies from transparency and playing her part by smearing contrary information as disinformation. While The Light speaks truth to power, she is speaking power to truth. Perhaps Spring will go the same way as her US counterpart Nina Jankovic, who resigned from the Homeland Security’s new disinformation governance body after posting an excruciating TikTok video of herself singing her version of ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ about fake news. Let us hope that Spring is better at singing than journalism.
