Some state legislators don’t like ‘smart’ meters either -
American opposition to utility “Smart” Meters – electric, gas, and water (see 1, 2) – has been ongoing since utility companies first started installing them. Given all the problems now identified with them – fires, explosions, higher bills (see 1, 2), frequent replacement (see 1, 2, 3), serious cybersecurity risks (see 1, 2), and more – opposition to these meters has significantly increased in the U.S. and worldwide.
“Smart” Meters are NOT safe. They also DO NOT save meaningful amounts of energy. Because so many Americans have complained, some state legislators have already proposed bills that allow constituents to “opt out” of these meters. Some utilities have also been forced into offering “opt-outs.” Pennsylvania residents had to go to court to be given the right to refuse them. Utility companies and their proponents continue to boo-hoo all of this...

Smart meter changes could see ‘surge pricing’ for millions – that was the idea all along
A major change to the way that smart meters operate will allow “surge pricing” in millions of UK households.
Under new powers which will be granted to energy regulator Ofgem in May, smart meters will automatically send usage information to suppliers every 30 minutes, according to a report in The Telegraph.
Suppliers could then use this information to charge consumers more during peak times, if they want.
Ofgem has said that the change will be implemented on all new smart meters by 2025, but people who already have a smart meter now won’t be affected unless they enter a new contract.
Still, the possibility of UK consumers being charged more during the busy periods, such as the mornings and evenings, is concerning for many given the current energy crisis which will see bills go up by 54% in April.
At the moment, customers can share usage information with suppliers by ‘opting-in’ to sharing this data.
The new proposal is akin to the “time of use” tariffs already being used by some providers, which encourage consumers to use less energy during peak times by offering cheaper prices when demand is low and higher prices during popular times.
Ultimately, suppliers want people to use less energy during busy periods, because this means less need to upgrade grid infrastructures.

Most Utility “Smart” Meters (Electric, Gas, and Water) Emit Very Strong Pulses of Harmful Radiation 24/7; How to “Opt Out”
Opposition to expensive, privacy invasive, unreliable and unsafe utility “Smart” Meters ( electric, gas, and water) is worldwide. Despite all the problems associated with these meters – including fires, explosions (see 1, 2, 3) and health risks to humans and pets (see 1, 2, 3) – proponents still insist that they’re better than one-way transmitting analog meters. NOPE! A free online documentary as well as countless articles and websites provide information proving the exact opposite.
Thanks to Environmental Health Trust for creating a new webpage including information about “Smart” Meter (aka smartmeter) health risks and “opt-out” programs.
What are Smartmeters?
Smartmeters are the new utility consumption measurement devices for electricity, water, and gas that are being installed across the nation, at residences and other buildings. There would be a separate meter for each type of utility and they are installed by the companies and governments that provide the utilities.
Most people are unaware that their meter has been switched or is in the process of being switched from an analogue meter to a digital “smart” meter. If your home or building already had a meter, it was probably an analogue meter (used for decades), but the the replacement meter is likely a digital meter—a “smart” meter.

Smart Meters — The Household Device That Spies on You 24/7
The data from smart meters reveal far more than you might think — and could even be used against you to control your individual energy use or, one day, to help ensure “net zero” compliance.
Many people have embraced the convenience of wireless devices in their homes, but these devices come at a price — your privacy and your health.
With each smart device that you welcome to your home — such as connected alarm clocks, vehicles, refrigerators and doorbells — another layer of your personal life is revealed and your health is sabotaged by EMFs.
This is certainly true of smart meters, which are officially known in the U.S. as advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) installations. In 2020, 102.9 million such smart meters were installed by U.S. electric utilities, about 88% of them in personal residences.
AMI meters measure and record electricity usage at least every hour, if not more, and provide the data to the utility company and consumer at least once a day.
According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, “AMI installations range from basic hourly interval meters to real-time meters with built-in two-way communication that is capable of recording and transmitting instantaneous data.”
What could be wrong with transmitting every last detail about your real-time energy usage to an energy company? Those data reveal far more than you might think — and could even be used against you to control your individual energy use or, one day, to help ensure “net zero” compliance.

Energy Suppliers Must Uninstall Wrongly Forced Prepayment “Smart” Meters, Pay Compensation Now to Victims
Suppliers told to remove prepayment meters that were wrongly force-fitted
Ofgem says energy companies must compensate customers now rather than wait until its review is complete.
Ofgem has told energy suppliers to uninstall prepayment meters that have been wrongly force-fitted and pay compensation now, rather than wait for the outcome of a review.
The watchdog is examining the prepayment meter market after it emerged that suppliers were routinely fitting thousands of meters to recover debts by using court warrants to gain entry into people’s homes, including those of vulnerable people.
Ofgem has told suppliers to pause the forced installation of prepayment meters (PPMs), but the ban will last only until 31 March, when its review is due to conclude.
The energy regulator has now laid out the parameters of an investigation into the sector, and into the actions of British Gas, after a Times report this month revealed that debt agents working for the supplier had broken into the homes of vulnerable people.
That followed months of calls from charities and MPs to tackle prepayment meters, amid evidence that people were being switched on to prepayment tariffs remotely and cut off from heat and poweras they could not afford to top up.
On Tuesday, Ofgem’s chief executive, Jonathan Brearley, said: “I’m telling suppliers not to wait for the outcome of our reviews and to act now to check that PPMs have been installed appropriately and, if rules have been broken, [to] offer customers a reversal of installations and compensation payments where appropriate. There will also be fines issued from Ofgem if the issue is found to be systemic.”
The regulator has set out the parameters of its compliance review, which will look at how executives at energy suppliers scrutinise decisions to switch households on to prepay; what company policies exist; how vulnerability is identified in their customers; and what compulsory training programmes they use.
A separate investigation, into British Gas, will look at whether the company takes every action possible before switching a customer on to prepay; how it assesses a customer’s “mental capacity and/ psychological state”; and assess whether agents are “fit and proper” to visit and enter customers’ homes.
Brearley said: “I am concerned about the way customers in already distressing situations are being treated when suppliers force them on to PPMs. That’s why, today, we have set out further details on the two investigations, one into British Gas for potential breaches that have been alleged indicating that something went very badly wrong at British Gas and the other into PPMs across all suppliers to assess whether this is an isolated case.”

Now energy companies make you pay to have your faulty smart meter repaired: Customers left in the dark as devices go dumb
Households are routinely being told they must pay to have faulty or broken smart meters replaced — despite energy providers promising the devices would help them save money.
In some cases, they are being quoted £50 just to replace the display unit that shows how much gas and electricity they are consuming in pounds and pence.
Money Mail’s postbag has been flooded with letters from scores of readers who, try as they may, simply cannot persuade their energy supplier to fix faulty smart meters.
Millions of the devices have now been rolled out to homes across the country. But 3.2 million homes have smart meters that don’t function as they should, with some left in limbo for months, with no way of knowing how much gas and electricity they are using — until a bill lands.
We have now sent a dossier of more than 50 complaints to regulator Ofgem and Smart Energy GB — the organisation behind the meter rollout.
Ofgem says suppliers must replace faulty meters free of charge if they break within 12 months — after that, the energy watchdog says suppliers are free to decide any charges.
Andy Cameron, 71, was told by British Gas he would have to cover the cost of a replacement display unit after it stopped working in January. British Gas did not specify how much this would be.
The father-of-two first got a smart meter just 18 months ago when energy prices started to soar.
But after a year of it functioning correctly, he began receiving texts and emails saying his smart meter was not sending signals or readings to British Gas.
When he contacted his supplier, the former procurement officer, who lives in Fife, Scotland, with his wife Anne, was told there was a six-month wait for repairs.

Expert Reveals Utility “Smart” Meters “are programmed to overcharge consumers” (charts included)

“Smart” meters are so controversial they inspired a documentary film! Nevertheless, utilities as well as other proponents continue to promote them as being beneficial to consumers, essential for “energy efficiency”, and safe despite articles, reports, research, and testimonials proving otherwise (see 1, 2, 3, 4).
From Westview News:
Electrical Engineer Explains How “Smart” Meters Can Lead to Higher Bills
Jill McManus Interview with Bill Bathgate
My grandchildren Teddy and Sofia complained about the jump in their electric bill. And Dusty provided them with the following article. – George
To get more information about the inner workings of “smart” meters, we spoke with professional electric and mechanical engineer William S. Bathgate. [Bathgate worked at Emerson Electric as Senior Program Manager for Power Distribution Systems in charge of RF and IP based digitally-controlled high power AC power switching system products that sold worldwide. He has also served in the U.S. Missile Defense Agency, NASA, and Homeland Security. He is certified as a Building Biologist and Electromagnetic Radiation Specialist by the Building Biologist Institute, and an IEEE Certified Radio Frequency Safety Officer. He has testified on behalf of Resident Customer groups in Michigan and Iowa that have worked to prevent rate increases and installation of low-quality meters. He has two companies, has conducted many tests in his own lab and has test results from over a thousand homes. https:// buildingbiologyinstitute.org/find-anexpert/ certified-consultants/buildingbiology- environmental-consultants/ william-bill-bathgate-bbec-ieee/] While some details may appear very technical, the central theme here is that smart meters emit excessive levels of EMF radiation, harm the environment by consuming energy unlike analog meters, are programmed to overcharge consumers, and are vulnerable to cyberattack. Now here’s the breakdown. Bathgate’s information was eye-opening.

A Complaint because they are dangerous!

The Energy Bill appears to imply that we must all have a Smart Meter. But they are not ideal for all people. Some consider them dangerous.
