Since 9/11, the Feds have been hard at work trying to create a national surveillance network ‘for our safety.’ And with Wi-Fiber Technology they might have finally succeeded. A new study by Safety.com revealed that CCTV cameras record each and every American at least 238 every week, or more than 12,000 times every year!
Approximately 6 years ago the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) created a national license plate reader program which was allegedly cancelled after public outcry.

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson on Wednesday ordered the cancellation of a plan by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency to develop a national license-plate tracking system after privacy advocates raised concern about the initiative.

An important tidbit, that has been mostly ignored by the mass media, is law enforcement’s involvement in helping create the DEA’s national license plate reader program.
In 2015 I wrote an article exposing law enforcement’s role in funneling license plate to the Feds.

The DEA has gathered as many as 343 million records in the National License Plate Recognition program, which connects DEA license plate readers with those of other law enforcement agencies around the country.

From repo companies to license plate reader companies like Rekor Systems, Vigilant Solutions and Flock Safety a vast database of more than 14 billion license plates have been recorded.
Even Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection are recording Americans’ license plates.
At the same time, police departments have been expanding their cam-share programs throughout the country. Police cam-share programs give law enforcement unfettered access to public and private CCTV cameras.
Our cities have become world leaders in public surveillance as a result of the many cameras in America.  Readers should note that, since the pandemic, Americans have seen a proliferation of facial recognition/thermal imaging cameras spreading across the country.
While all of this has been going on, the Feds have been hard at work turning our cities into mini-CIA smart cities.
In 2017, the CIA’s “Signature School”, the University of New Mexico, has been helping turn our cities into smart cities. Not to be outdone, the U.S. Marine Corps also has their dirty hands in smart cities.
Last year, the U.S. Marine Corps signed a memorandum of understanding to work with the city of San Diego in turning street lights and the IoT into smart city surveillance devices.

Hancock personally facilitated the Israel technology cooperation in the NHS. With the building of NHSX he handed the car keys to Matthew Gould, now CEO of NHSX. NHSX sets NATIONAL POLICY on NHS technology, digital and data, including data sharing. Meaning they have everyone’s medical records nationwide and literally set nationwide health technology policy. Matthew Gould is the Former Ambassador to guess who? Israel. He is a descendant of Polish Jews.

San Francisco Cops Illegally Spy on Protests; Activists File Suit

On Wednesday, local activists filed suit against the City of San Francisco for illegally spying on them during anti-police protests in late May and early June.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) and the ACLU of Northern California filed the suit on behalf of Hope Williams, Nathan Sheard, and Nestor Reyes who all helped organize and participated in numerous protests in San Francisco in the wake of the police killing of George Floyd. According to the suit, the San Francisco Police Department tapped into a private camera network run by a city business district to conduct live mass surveillance in violation of a city ordinance.
The San Francisco Board of Supervisors passed the ordinance last year. The law bans the use of facial recognition technology in the city and requires any city department to get the Board of Supervisors’ approval before acquiring or using surveillance technology. According to the suit, the SFPD failed to go through the legally required process before commandeering the camera system to surveil protesters.

“In a democracy, people should be able to freely protest without fearing that police are spying and lying in wait,” ACLU of Northern California Technology and Civil Liberties Attorney Matt Cagle said in a press release. “Illegal, dragnet surveillance of protests is completely at odds with the First Amendment and should never be allowed. That the SFPD flouted the law to spy on activists protesting the abuse and killing of Black people by the police is simply indefensible.”

Williams called secret government spying on protests “an affront to our movement for equity and justice.”

“We have the right to organize, speak out, and march without fear of police surveillance.”

EFF obtained records revealing that the San Francisco Police Department received a real-time remote link allowing them to access more than 400 surveillance cameras. The Union Square Business Improvement District (USBID), a non-city entity,  operates the network. According to EFF,  “These networked cameras are high definition, allow remote zoom and focus capabilities, and are linked to a software system that can automatically analyze content, including distinguishing between when a car or a person passes within the frame.”
The SFPD’s use of surveillance technology in defiance of the law teaches an important strategic lesson. Activists can’t rest on a single victory. Passing laws requiring transparency and limiting the actions of government agencies is only the first step. Enforcing those laws requires continued vigilance. Fortunately, the coalition that pushed San Francisco to adopt its “Stop Secret Surveillance Ordinance” has continued to stay engaged and continued to push for further limits on surveillance. The fact that local activists in the Bay Area continue to work and didn’t let down their guard with one victory prevented the SFPD from getting away with simply ignoring the law.

That Little Green Dot: Your iPhone Camera Is Spying On You

Apple has rolled out with a new privacy protection feature on its iPhone, specifically with the new iOS 14 update, which many will welcome and consider crucial in the post Edward Snowden era, as well as the explosion of cases of unwanted corporate spying and tracking individuals for creepy product placement and data collection purposes.
The Apple update will make a little green dot appear anytime an app actively uses the iPhone’s camera, Apple recently indicated in a statement. And further a similar orange dot will appear anytime the microphone is activated.
“An indicator appears at the top of your screen whenever an app is using your microphone or camera,” Apple said. “And in Control Center, you can see if an app has used them recently.”

“Privacy is a fundamental human right and at the core of everything we do,” Apple explained, acknowledging the growing controversy and public outcry over apps that ‘spy’ on users without their known it, for example apps that gear adds based on the iPhone user’s vicinity to a particular store.
“That’s why with iOS 14, we’re giving you more control over the data you share and more transparency into how it’s used,” Apple said previously during the update rollout.

Court Records Show Google Gives Keyword Searches of Innocent People to Cops

Everyone reading this knows that there are few things on the internet more revealing than their internet search data. It is for this reason that police must seek out a warrant for an actual suspect in order to obtain said data. However, a recently unsealed court document found that government can request such data in reverse order by asking Google to disclose everyone who searched a keyword rather than for information on a known suspect.
To spell it out more clearly, authorities can simply pick a search term and construct a warrant around it without anyone being accused of a crime or being a suspect in a crime, and then Google will simply over their data. What could possibly go wrong?

The court files in question that exposed this Orwellian nightmare are from the arrest of Michael Williams, an associate of singer and accused sex offender R. Kelly, for allegedly setting fire to a witness’ car in Florida.
Authorities told Google that they needed information on all “users who had searched the address of the residence close in time to the arson.”
As CNET reports, documents showed that Google provided the IP addresses of people who searched for the arson victim’s address, which investigators tied to a phone number belonging to Williams. Police then used the phone number records to pinpoint the location of Williams’ device near the arson, according to court documents.
While this instance may not seem too intrusive to some, consider the fact of how easily the state was able to obtain search information on completely innocent people.
“This ‘keyword warrant’ evades the Fourth Amendment checks on police surveillance,” said Albert Fox Cahn, the executive director of the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project. “When a court authorizes a data dump of every person who searched for a specific term or address, it’s likely unconstitutional.”
CNET reports:

The keyword warrants are similar to geofence warrants, in which police make requests to Google for data on all devices logged in at a specific area and time. Google received 15 times more geofence warrant requests in 2018 compared with 2017, and five times more in 2019 than 2018. The rise in reverse requests from police have troubled Google staffers, according to internal emails.

Naturally, Google, whose been ensnared in controversy after controversy, released a statement claiming that they protect the privacy of its users — unless of course the government tells them to do otherwise.
“We require a warrant and push to narrow the scope of these particular demands when overly broad, including by objecting in court when appropriate,” Google’s director of law enforcement and information security, Richard Salgado, said in a statement. “These data demands represent less than 1% of total warrants and a small fraction of the overall legal demands for user data that we currently receive.”

The company then declined to disclose how many keyword warrants it received in the last three years. So much for that transparency thing.
In Illinois, warrants like the one mentioned above have already been found by federal court to be a violation of the Fourth Amendment. Authorities in Illinois simply told Google that they needed all the historical information about what devices were at certain locations and they received all of it — including the data from the countless innocent people who visited these same locations and google handed it over. Luckily, there are still some members of government who see the ominous nature of police having such easy access to this data.
Todd Spodek, the attorney representing Williams, says he’s seen a bunch of these warrants over the years and worries that they could lead to the arrest of innocent people.
“Think of the ramifications in the future if everyone who searched something in the privacy of their own home was subject to interviews by federal agents,” Spodek said. “Someone could be interested in how people die a certain way or how drug deals are done, and it could be misconstrued or used improperly.”
Indeed, the complete lack of probable cause in these warrants is shocking. A tyrannical state who wanted to identify those who oppose it — peacefully — could turn over one of these keyword warrants to Google and entire activist populations could be categorically rooted out and subject to invasive searches, arrests, or worse.
While it is the state asking for this information, it is Google that is storing in such a way that creates a unique profile on billions of users.
“If Google stored data in a way that was truly de-identified, then they also couldn’t give it to the government,” the Electronic Frontier Foundation’s surveillance litigation director Jennifer Lynch said. “Google’s not setting up their system or changing their practices in a way that could prevent these kinds of searches.”
In fact, they are actually building their system to facilitate this very thing.
As TFTP has reported, the information Facebook and other social media companies keep on its users is utterly mind-blowing, consisting of everything from text messages to liked posts, the social media giant is building profiles on billions. However, this is nothing compared to what Google has.

Manage to gain access to someone’s Google account? Perfect, you have a diary of everything that person has done.

This link includes your bookmarks, emails, contacts, your Google Drive files, all of the above information, your YouTube videos, the photos you’ve taken on your phone, the businesses you’ve bought from, the products you’ve bought through Google …
They also have data from your calendar, your Google hangout sessions, your location history, the music you listen to, the Google books you’ve purchased, the Google groups you’re in, the websites you’ve created, the phones you’ve owned, the pages you’ve shared, how many steps you walk in a day …

This information has millions of nefarious uses. You say you’re not a terrorist. Then how come you were googling Isis? Work at Google and you’re suspicious of your wife? Perfect, just look up her location and search history for the last 10 years. Manage to gain access to someone’s Google account? Perfect, you have a chronological diary of everything that person has done for the last 10 years.
This is one of the craziest things about the modern age. We would never let the government or a corporation put cameras/microphones in our homes or location trackers on us. But we just went ahead and did it ourselves because – to hell with it! – I want to watch cute dog videos.

If we continue to be okay with unknown corporate entities watching our every move, collecting every bit of our personal information, and using all of it against us in unconstitutional agreements with the government, the words “freedom” and “privacy” will become but a fleeting memory.
While you may think you have nothing to hide if you’ve done nothing wrong, it’s only a matter of time before someone deems your completely legal behavior a threat—and uses this massive spy tool to stop that threat.
Now for the solution. Stop giving Google all these permissions, go through your device’s permissions and disable everything that may let Google collect your information. Stop letting Google record you by disabling the voice recognition. Use browsers like Firefox or TOR or Brave that don’t spy on you. Use search engines like DuckDuckgo.com. Use VPNs and quit paying for internet services that allow third-parties to collect your information.
Unless we reclaim our privacy now, we will be responsible for the insane information dystopia that we create. Please share this article as Google will likely make sure it does not make the front page of its search engine.

The Development, Concepts and Doctrine Centre (DCDC) has worked in partnership with the German Bundeswehr Office for Defence Planning to understand the future implications of human augmentation (HA), setting the foundation for more detailed Defence research and development.
The project incorporates research from German, Swedish, Finnish and UK Defence specialists to understand how emerging technologies such as genetic engineering, bioinformatics and the possibility of brain-computer interfaces could affect the future of society, security and Defence. The ethical, moral and legal challenges are complex and must be thoroughly considered, but HA could signal the coming of a new era of strategic advantage with possible implications across the force development spectrum.
HA technologies provides a broad sense of opportunities for today and in the future. There are mature technologies that could be integrated today with manageable policy considerations, such as personalised nutrition, wearables and exoskeletons. There are other technologies in the future with promises of bigger potential such as genetic engineering and brain-computer interfaces. The ethical, moral and legal implications of HA are hard to foresee but early and regular engagement with these issues lie at the heart of success.
HA will become increasingly relevant in the future because it is the binding agent between the unique skills of humans and machines. The winners of future wars will not be those with the most advanced technology, but those who can most effectively integrate the unique skills of both human and machine.
The growing significance of human-machine teaming is already widely acknowledged but this has so far been discussed from a technology-centric perspective. This HA project represents the missing part of the puzzle.
