COVID-19 and Project Fear

MPs Launch Investigation into Government ‘Covid’ Propaganda After Psychologists Criticise Nudge Unit For ‘Grossly Unethical Tactics’ of Fear

The Government’s “grossly unethical” use of its “nudge unit” stoked fear among the public during the pandemic, psychologists have said – prompting MPs to launch an investigation into the Government’s Covid propaganda. The Telegraph has the story.
Quote:A group of psychologists have written to Parliament’s Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee, warning that a team of civil servants dedicated to “nudging” public behaviour during the pandemic were unaccountable and unethical.
The letter’s 40 professional signatories – led by Dr. Gary Sidley, a retired clinical psychologist – said they opposed the use of dramatic adverts, which included slogans such as: “If you go out you can spread it, people will die.”
They also condemned the use of “images of the acutely unwell in intensive care units” on billboard and television adverts, as well as the “macabre mono focus on showing the number of COVID-19 deaths without mention of mortality from other causes or the fact that, under normal circumstances, around 1,600 people die each day in the U.K.”.
The signatories said it was “highly questionable whether a civilised society should knowingly increase the emotional discomfort of its citizens as a means of gaining their compliance”.
The letter added: “Government scientists deploying fear, shame and scapegoating to change minds is an ethically dubious practice that in some respects resembles the tactics used by totalitarian regimes such as China, where the state inflicts pain on a subset of its population in an attempt to eliminate beliefs and behaviour they perceive to be deviant.” …
The letter drew attention to a government memo from March 2020, which suggested that “the perceived level of personal threat needs to be increased among those who are complacent” and called for more frightening messaging.

Military Grade PsyOps Used to Instil Fear in The Minds of The British Public

Maajid Nawaz spoke with Joe Rogan last month during a three-hour interview covering a lot of ground including the PsyOps deployed on the British public through the Covid era.
Nawaz is a former Islamist turned counter-extremism activist, author of multiple books, and a public speaker.  He was the founding chairman of Quilliam, a counter-extremism think tank that sought to challenge the narratives of Islamist extremists and, until January 2022, was the host of an LBC radio show on Saturdays and Sundays. Nawaz was dismissed by LBC for speaking against the UK government’s Covid narrative.
LBC’s parent company is Global Media & Entertainment (“Global”), the largest commercial radio company in Europe.  Global is owned by Michael Tabor a British businessman, bookmaker, gambler and owner of thoroughbred racehorses.

World must roll out jab for next pandemic virus in just 100 days, scientist behind Oxford ‘COVID’ fake vaccine says

Professor Dame Sarah Gilbert said it took around 300 days from the identification of COVID-19 to the approval of the first vaccines, but to prevent a future pandemic the response needs to be far faster.
The scientist behind the Oxford COVID vaccine has urged the world to roll out a jab for the next pandemic virus – so-called Disease X – in just 100 days.
In an interview with Sky News, Professor Dame Sarah Gilbert said it took around 300 days from the identification of COVID-19 in China to the approval of the first vaccines by medical authorities.
But to prevent the catastrophic impact of a future pandemic the response needed to be far faster.
Being better prepared
“We are not talking about doing the same thing again and just doing it quicker,” she said.
“What we are talking about now is being much better prepared, so we don’t have to start from the same place next time.”
Professor Gilbert will join the director general of the World Health Organisation, the medical adviser to the US President Prof Anthony Fauci, pharmaceutical bosses and government representatives at the Global Pandemic Preparedness Summit in London.
The 100-day target was originally put forward by the UK government during its G7 presidency in June 2021, and backed by leaders of the G7 and G20.

NHS Waiting List Hits Record High as 6.1 Million Queue for Routine Operations

NHS waiting lists for routine operations have hit yet another record high of 6.1 million, the first official data for 2022 show, as the pandemic backlog fails to clear. MailOnline has the story.
An additional 30,000 people were on the list for routine operations such as hip and knee replacements and cataract surgery in January compared to December.
The 6.1 million figure is the largest since records began and two million higher than when the pandemic hit in 2020, when NHS elective care was effectively frozen for months.
Ministers have come under increasing pressure to get a handle on the crisis with charities warning millions of Britons living in pain while waiting for their surgeries.
The number of people waiting over a year to start treatment increased to 311,528 in January, up from around only 1,400 before Covid hit.
The Government and NHS England have vowed to eliminate all waits of more than a year by March 2025 as part of their pandemic recovery plan.
Almost 24,000 have been waiting at least two years for treatment, up from 20,065 in December, and over nine times the 2,608 who were waiting in April 2021.
These patients will be contacted by the end of the month to be offered alternative appointments in places where queues aren’t as long or in private hospitals. Their transport and accommodation fees will be covered.

Did official figures overestimate Britain’s ‘Covid’ death toll? The chaotic way mortalities were recorded during the pandemic could mean thousands were WRONGLY blamed on the virus. You don’t bloody say – where were you when it was happening Mail newspapers? PROMOTING THE LIE. PS: There was nothing ‘chaotic’ about it – it was cold calculation

Did official figures overestimate Britain’s grim Covid death toll?
It’s a question that has been asked persistently by medics and members of the public alike almost since the start of the pandemic.
First, disturbing stories emerged from bereaved relatives of terminally ill patients who died from the disease they’d battled, only to be posthumously labelled Covid victims.
Then health chiefs admitted, embarrassingly, that the numbers they’d been feeding the Government were only an approximation – provoking fury from Ministers.
More recently it was revealed that a quarter of Omicron deaths included in the daily figures did not, in fact, list Covid as a primary cause.
More than two years since Covid-19 emerged, many feel they want a simple answer: how many were killed by this virus?
Last week, in the first of a series of special reports probing the science that has underpinned our pandemic response, The Mail on Sunday set about tackling the ongoing concerns that tests used to diagnose Covid were picking up people who were not actually infected.
The conclusion of some scientists was, yes, they did. And there were those who maintained that despite shortcomings, PCR swabs – used by millions – were accurate enough.

The Terrible Cost of Mass Testing of Children

There follows a guest post by Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychologist Dr. Zenobia Storah, Professor of Psychology Ellen Townsend, Clinical Professor of Public Health Allyson Pollock and Psychotherapist Sarah Waters, who say children were subjected to all manner of unevidenced and harmful interventions during the pandemic, not least of which was frequent testing, and we must now prioritise their recovery and ensure it never happens again.
Twice-weekly asymptomatic testing for COVID-19 was introduced in secondary schools in the U.K. in January 2021. Although guidance was specific to secondary education, many primary schools, nurseries and pre-schools also requested routine testing of children in their care. Regular self-testing by students has also been required at colleges and universities.
In the last month, the Government removed its testing advice for staff and pupils in most schools. We welcome this change. Mass testing has been harmful for many, especially for children. Indeed, experts have cautioned against asymptomatic mass testing. The lack of evidence on impact on transmission, high costs, and likely diversion of resources from important activities such as mental health support have all been cited. Incredibly, even though mass testing is screening, the U.K. Government ignored the Wilson and Junger 1968 principles of screening and never sought the advice of the National Screening Committee. We are not aware of any evidence-base for this policy or any risk assessment regarding potential psychological or physical harms.

How the organized Left got Covid wrong, learned to love lockdowns and lost its mind: an autopsy

It is hard to destroy your own cause and feel righteous while doing so, yet the American left has done it. After more than two centuries at the vanguard of the struggle for freedom, the American left, broadly defined, executed a volte face and embraced anti-working-class policies marketed as purely technical public health measures. For two years the left has championed policies of surveillance and exclusion in the form of: punitive vaccine mandates, invasive vaccine passports, socially destructive lockdowns, and radically unaccountable censorship by large media and technology corporations. For the entire pandemic, leftists and liberals – call them the Lockdown Left – cheered on unprecedented levels of repression aimed primarily at the working class – those who could not afford private schools and could not comfortably telecommute from second homes.
Almost the entire left intelligentsia has remained psychically stuck in March 2020. Its members have applauded the new biosecurity repression and calumniated as liars, grifters, and fascists any and all who dissented. Typically, they did so without even engaging evidence and while shirking public debate. Among the most visible in this has been Noam Chomsky, the self-described anarcho-syndicalist who called for the unvaccinated to “remove themselves from society,” and suggested that they should be allowed to go hungry if they refuse to submit. [1]
In Jacobin, a magazine claiming to support the working class in all its struggles, Branko Marcetic demanded the unvaccinated be barred from public transportation: “one obvious course of action is for Biden to make vaccines a requirement for mass transport.” [2] Journalist Doug Henwood has scolded the unvaccinated with: “Get over your own bloated sense of self-importance.” [3] But Henwood has championed shutting down all of society in the name of safety, while refusing to engage counter-arguments – a combination that suggests a bloated sense of self-importance of his own.
Other left intellectuals, like Benjamin Bratton, author of a Verso book on the pandemic called Return of the Real, are notable for hiding amidst academic blather: “the book’s argument is on behalf [of] a ‘positive biopolitics’ that may form the basis of viable social self-organization, but this is less a statement on behalf of ‘the political’ in some metaphysical sense than on behalf of a governmentality through which an inevitably planetary society can deliberately compose itself.” [4] This is, as the late Alex Cockburn once said, “what dumb people think smart people sound like.”

Children are separated from their parents under China’s Zero Covid crackdown as Communist regime STILL tries to eradicate the virus

Chinese authorities are forcing children as young as three months old into quarantine centres away from their parents as part of their endless Zero Covid strategy.
Esther Zhao brought her daughter, two, to hospital with a fever on March 26 and they both tested positive for Covid three days later.
Doctors attempted to take Zhao’s child away to a quarantine centre alone and threatened Zhao when she didn’t comply – saying that the girl would be kept in the Covid-ravaged hospital if she didn’t comply.
After her daughter was taken to Shanghai Public Health Clinical Centre, Zhao has only had one piece of information from doctors about her daughter despite pleas from her and her husband.
Zhao told Reuters: ‘There have been no photos at all… I’m so anxious, I have no idea what situation my daughter is in.
‘The doctor said Shanghai rules is that children must be sent to designated points, adults to quarantine centres and you’re not allowed to accompany the children.’
She also said that pictures of crying children circulated on the Weibo social media platform purporting to be in the hospital had made her anxious and worried.
In one video, a groaning toddler crawls out of a room with four child-sized beds pushed against the wall. While a few adults can be seen in the videos, they are outnumbered by the number of children.

NINE new ‘Covid’ symptoms added – no matter how you feel you’ve got ‘Covid’. Message received? Ingrowing toenail? ‘Covid’

The official list of Covid-19 symptoms has been expanded to include nine new signs of illness.
The extension of the symptoms list to include ailments such as sore throat, fatigue and headache could help to reduce infections, one expert said.
News that the symptoms list has been updated emerged just days after the Government ended the offer of free universal Covid-19 tests.
It comes as Covid infection levels have hit a record high in the UK, with almost five million people estimated to be currently infected.
The new symptoms have been added to the NHS website, along with the three traditional symptoms of a fever, a new and persistent cough, and a loss or change in taste or smell.
According to nhs.uk the signs of Covid-19 that people should look out for also include:
shortness of breath;
feeling tired or exhausted;
an aching body;
a headache;
a sore throat;
a blocked or runny nose;
loss of appetite;
diarrhoea;
feeling sick or being sick.
A note on website adds: “The symptoms are very similar to symptoms of other illnesses, such as colds and flu.”

German Ethics Council Releases Draft Report Which Sharply Criticises Uncritical Reporting by Corporate Media During the ‘Covid’ Era

In May last year Germany’s largest newspaper, Bild, issued an apology for its coverage of the Covid pandemic which was “like poison” and “made you feel like you were a mortal danger to society.”
In December, Neues Deutschland wrote, a privately commissioned empirical study on journalistic reporting during the Covid era was published titled ‘One-sided, uncritical, close to the government?’. The authors describe the “very clear result of the present study” that the reporting was “at the same time close to and critical of the government”:
“She was close to the government because the media, like politicians, mainly advocated tough measures. At the same time, however, she was also critical of the government, because the media often did not consider these measures harsh enough or came too late.”
Now, on 4 April 2022, the German Ethics Council has released their 161-page draft report ‘Vulnerability and Resilience in Crisis – Ethical, Criteria for decisions in a pandemic’ which sharply criticises “mass media’s” lack of critical reporting. “Obvious undesirable developments were hardly addressed with the necessary clarity by a journalism that saw itself as ‘constructive’ or ‘sensitive to the common good’ … Reporting by mass media that is too affirmative or one-sided pleadingly fails to stimulate the formation of opinions … Criticism is not only legitimate, it is necessary,” the draft report states.
The report is in German however we have translated it into English, using Google translate, and attached it below.
Corporate Media Lacks Critical Analysis
German Ethics Council: Vulnerability and Resilience in Crisis – Ethical, Criteria for decisions in a pandemic (Draft, German), 4 April 2022, pg. 97
Within section 4 of the draft report is subsection 4.2, Reliable and robust institutions and processes of democracy and political participation (pg. 101-104). Below is a summary of highlights regarding “mass media,” noted in subsection 4.2.
Where the information has been extracted from elsewhere in the report, we have noted the page number in brackets for reference purposes. These page numbers refer to the page number in the English version attached above.
A variety of public opinions offers important points of reference for the decisions of state organs and in particular the parliamentary legislature. Public discourse requires places or opportunities for lively controversy.
All decision-making processes of state institutions are ultimately based on civil society resources, on a free political culture and an enlightened political socialisation, above all on the initiatives of opinion-forming associations.
During the pandemic, many of the usual occasions and places where more deliberative communication could take place could not be accessed due to restrictions placed on society in response to the Covid pandemic, the applicable contact and mobility restrictions. In view of these limitations, the function of not only social media but also that of the mass media for political deliberation is all the more important.
Mass media communication enables structured formation of opinions in a thoroughly diverse public. It thrives on argumentative debates in which reasons for different views are brought to bear and weighed against each other in conversation. Especially in times of crisis the mass media, and in particular the public radio and television stations, have the indispensable task to air the contentious issues. To make the pros and cons of measures audible and visible to a reasoning public.
The critical part of this task was not always forthcoming at the beginning of the Covid crisis or to a desirable level. The reluctance to focus sharp criticism on every detail in view of the size, the novelty and the “suddenness” of the pandemic problem may well have been understandable and justified. However, as the pandemic progressed even obvious undesirable developments were hardly addressed with the necessary clarity by a journalism that saw itself as “constructive” or “sensitive to the common good”.
Reporting by mass media that is too affirmative or one-sided pleadingly fails to stimulate the formation of opinions and, in a democratic society with indispensable counterviews, will fail, in a sense, to be self-critical.
An opinion article from Neues Deutschland agrees: “The crisis and state of emergency must not be used as an opportunity to forego critical journalism. Because that’s when he’s required! It must show the political and social conflicts that are under the ‘priority of the fighting a pandemic’, but are in danger of being forgotten. Keeping the awareness of contradictions alive and offering them a forum would be an educational task in the midst of all the media hustle and bustle.”
Less in the public eye, but also worrying from the point of view of democracy theory, is the impairment of civil society political engagement through the Covid contact restrictions. Discussion and co-operation were only possible digitally and were therefore severely restricted. In addition, there was a ban or severe restrictions of public events and gatherings. In addition, the Covid pandemic dominated the media agenda. Civil society organisations and other initiatives hardly had the opportunity to have their concerns heard. (pg. 85)
Negotiation processes on how to deal with specific risks must be conducted openly and with the broad inclusion of socially relevant positions. The media play an important role in this, which comes with a special responsibility. In public communication, any form of scaremongering motivated by attention economics should be avoided, as should trivialisation and “all clear” without a valid reason. (pg. 135)
(Note: Attention economics is an approach to the management of information that treats human attention as a scarce commodity.)

Public Wants Government Held to Account Over Use of Fear in Fake Pandemic, Poll Shows

The use of behavioural psychology in influencing public behaviour during the pandemic – a.k.a. Project Fear – must be part of the U.K. COVID-19 Inquiry, say 42% of the public, according to a new poll. A State of Fear author Laura Dodsworth has more.
An independent new survey by opinion experts Yonder for grassroots organisation Recovery has revealed that the terms of reference fail to address major public concerns. Although the draft terms bullet-point no less than 32 separate areas of focus for the Inquiry, key areas of concern are missing.
Recovery found that:
• 42% want the Inquiry to consider the use of behavioural psychology in influencing public behaviour during the pandemic.
• 40% want restrictions on the media examined, reflecting concern over whether the actions of Ofcom and the main broadcasters and social media platforms compromised freedom of speech.
• 60% want a specific focus on children to be included in the inquiry – there is currently no mention of impact of Covid measures on children.
Jon Dobinson who heads up Recovery said:
“There are obvious dangers in the unchecked use of sophisticated psychological techniques by Government to alter people’s behaviour without their knowledge or consent. Behavioural psychologists were given free rein during the pandemic and their controversial use of fear in particular has had serious consequences for mental health. The Inquiry must bring some overdue scrutiny to the work of the nudge unit: controls on its techniques are vital.”
