New Experimental Vaccines Promised within Weeks to Combat Mild New Covid Variant ‘Omicron'
Reuters reported that Novavax Inc. said on Friday it had started working on a version of its COVID-19 vaccine to target the new Omicron variant detected in South Africa and would have the shot ready for testing and manufacturing in the next few weeks. Dr. Angelique Coetzee from South Africa claims to have only just discovered Omicron on November 18. A critic noted that within days of the identification of a new variant, “global travel has been halted, states of emergency have been declared, and now we see a pharmaceutical company announcing the variant-specific vaccine trial that will begin in the U.S. in a few weeks. This government relationship with Big Pharma is certainly generating some fast action, eh?”
The purported history of Omicron…
Scientists have been puzzling over how Africa, with a Covid vaccination rate of 6%, has had very few cases and deaths attributed to Covid-19. Now, a new variant , Omicron, has been reported to have come out of Botswana, and then spread to South Africa. It was detected in four people who were fully vaccinated, yet tested positive for Covid on November 11, according to the Botswana government.
Dr. Angelique Coetzee, Chairman of the South African Medical Association, is the doctor who first spotted the new Covid variant Omicron on November 18, 2021. She said that she observed “unusual symptoms” in a patient that included extreme tiredness, body aches and headache, which are common symptoms of the flu. She used a rapid test to diagnose him with the new variant. She tested the rest of his family and they all tested positive. She said that the symptoms are extremely mild and no one was admitted to hospital.
