PHIPPS ESTATE – a timeline of the mysterious Palm Beach subdivision:
Sept. 17, 1949
Florida attorney and venture capitalist Lewis Schott, and his first wife, Marcia Whitney Schott, bring into the world a daughter: Victoria.
1973
Lewis Schott's daughter, Victoria, marries SIR EVELYN DE ROTHSCHILD in a Jewish wedding. She’s his second wife, becoming Victoria, Lady de Rothschild.
The pair will live in the UK at Ascott House and will have three children before eventually separating.
1985
LESLIE WEXNER buys a 6-acre oceanfront property in the 500 block of North County Road in PHIPPS ESTATE, Palm Beach. He buys the site for $10 m from Charles and Jayne Wrightsman of Standard Oil and demolishes the historic estate called Blythedales.
Leslie Wexner sells the now mostly vacant land in 1988 to Abraham ‘Abe’ Gosman for $12.08 m. Gosman completes a house on the estate.
Donald Trump will defeat Jeffrey Epstein at auction in Nov. 2004 to buy this house for $41.35 m. [see below].
1990
Sir Evelyn de Rothschild's father in law, Lewis Schott (the father of Lady Victoria de Rothschild), moves to PALM BEACH and a few years later will marry Mary Hilem Schott, nee Rubloff.
1995
Sir Evelyn de Rothschild's father in law, Lewis Schott, pays $1 million for the lot at 226 Via Las Brisas, PHIPPS ESTATE, which was developed by Dan and Karen Swanson of Addison Development on land they purchased from Susan Phipps Cochran and her husband, Bob Eigelberger.
Via Las Brisas, which stretches between North County Road and North Lake Way, is the southernmost of two streets that comprise the Phipps Estate.
Sir Evelyn de Rothschild's father in law, Lewis Schott, and his wife, finish building a house called ‘Casa Banyan’ in 1997, at 226 Via Las Brisas, Phipps Estate.
The house occupies a lot immediately south of the entrance to Phipps Estate from North County Road on the near North End.
(Interestingly, from 2008-2010, Schott and his wife will be joined on the street by Gen. Alexander Haig, a former secretary of state, who in 2008 buys the house at 244 Via Las Brisas. Haig will die in 2010 and his wife will die in 2012. The Haigs had owned Palm Beach real estate in their names since no later than 1992)
Apr. 3, 1995
Jeffrey Epstein forms a company in Palm Beach called Lot 19 PHIPPS ESTATE Corp.
Is 'Lot 19' a reference to the same piece of property as Leslie Wexner's 515-535 North County Road, or is it some other parcel?
Strangely, Epstein quickly files to alter this company name to ‘Ghislaine Corp.’
Nov. 2004
Donald Trump acquires 515-535 North County Road, PHIPPS ESTATE, in a property auction.
Trump’s defeated two rivals are (i) Jeffrey Epstein; and (ii) an unknown third bidder.
Trump’s winning bid was $41.35 m.
July 2008
Donald Trump sells the estate to Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev for $95 m.
Trump had carried out some renovations to the mansion, but they were reportedly mostly cosmetic. Thus the sale price raises eyebrows.
2016
Dmitry Rybolovlev demolishes the house and subdivides the land into three 2-acre lots, which sell for a combined $108 million. The addresses are 515, 525, and 535 North County Road, Phipps Estate.
May 2018
The estate of the late Lewis Schott (who died the previous year) sells 226 Via Las Brisas, Phipps Estate, to a former CIA executive director, ALVIN KRONGARD, for $9.64 m.,
Krongardhad been appointed to his position at the CIA by then CIA-Director George Tenet in March 2001, during the first year of President George W. Bush’s administration. An attorney, Krongard accepted the position after serving as counselor to the director of central intelligence for three years
