Any one looked at the work of Josh Del Sol? Richie has interviewed him, a while back. i think the name of his group is Impower. There are several very good tutorials on you tube. As well as the interview with Richie.
I would like to share my story.
In the area where I live we have Duke Energy. Last summer, they sent out this little 3x5 post card saying "Meter upgrade coming soon." the info was non info, basic nothing. No where did it say if you want to opt out...
So I call the question # provided. The lady who answered was " Do you have a question about the meter up grade?" Very up beat & cheerful.
I said' "Yes. Where can I opt out."
You could have heard a pin drop..So she connects me to a Duke rep. who talks to me like a 3 year old. I'll paraphrase. He said, you can download an app to see how much power you use anytime, this meter will run more efficiently, so only the power you use will be monitored. To which I said, This is what I know about power & people, if it's hot, they turn on the air, if it's cold they turn up the heat, they don't care. He said if I opt out I will be charged $150.00 & an extra $11.76 per month for some one to read my meter. I said good, I kept some one their job, we need more of those. To date none of this has happened.
I asked when this installation was going to happen. 3 weeks. (this was Monday) I got busy, printed fliers with website pro & con, mostly con. On Wednesday, I was putting out my fliers, but too late my neighborhood had smart meters installed.
We have had 1 house fire,( I went there & spoke to the owners) but except for community word of mouth, nothing printed or reported in the news. Good news Duke Energy is paying for the repairs.
Keep fighting!
