England’s privatised water firms paid £57bn in dividends since 1991 -
Since they were privatised in 1989 with all debts written off, England’s 9 private water companies have;
- amassed debts of £48Bn
- paid shareholders £57Bn (so borrowed to pay dividends)
- paid individual CEOs up to 7 times what the publicly owned Scottish Water pays theirs
- Scottish water spent 35% more on infrastructure than the privatised company average whilst charging customers 14% less.
All while privatised water incurred more serious pollution incidents that damaged wildlife, the local environment and in the worst cases public health.
Time to take it off them.
