In February, a new law was introduced in the state Victoria in Australia under which sexual assault victims are prohibited from telling their stories.
If they tell their stories using their (real) names, they can be jailed for 4 months or be fined more than $3000.
Media outlets that publish their stories (with names) can also be prosecuted and fined up to $8,000.
Some activists against this clear example of censorship have started a “# Let her/us speak” campaign to change the law...
The new law applies retrospectively, so that victims who have previously spoken out are now censored from publicly speaking out: https://7news.com.au/politics/law-and-or...-c-1266488
The Australian states Tasmania and Northern Territory have earlier introduced similar laws to gag sex abuse victims (with promises to change these laws – yeah right!): https://www.globalcitizen.org/en/content...-gag-laws/
