We had a guy come and read our house meters a few weeks ago. I asked him how he felt about being put out of a job by Smart meters (We don't have them) He said for now his bosses have told them that they still have to come and read the meters, smart or otherwise. When I asked what was the point in having the smart meter, he replied I don't know, I am just doing what they tell me.
I wonder why they are still being told to read 'Smart' meters?
I have smart meter at my business premises (it was installed before I took up the lease) and it never works, I am forever having to read it for the company and send them the reading... I use very little energy though, around £20 a month. perhaps it doesn't care to monitor so little activity?
The meter is locked away in a wooden box, perhaps to WiFi signal isn't so strong?
Either way, Smart meters are the devils work and should be avoided at all costs.
cheers all

I am aware, therefore I am.
